Creativity
House activities, hobbies and anything extra-curricular.
House Basketball
In years 7 and 8, I participated in the house basketball event, and in Year 7 acted as the captain. I was quite new to being a captain and found it a thrilling experience, and although I was gutted we weren't able to get first, overall, I found it an extremely fun event.
House Cricket
In year 7 I took part in the house cricket event, I was one of the team's captains and love to play the sport. So when we placed first and won all of our games I was overjoyed. I used to play Cricket for a club but after covid, I stopped, although I still play quite often at home. As for the event I was very excited, beforehand, as it would be my first time missing a full day of school for cricket.
House Table Tennis
This year I took part in the House table tennis event in which I played as part of a doubles team. I play table tennis at home, and it is one of my favourite hobbies. I usually play with my parents, who taught me how to play and always mentor me on new ways to get better. As for the event I loved playing as a team as it was quite a new experience for me.
Pool
Another hobby I love to play is pool. I usually play with my family and we typically play very competitively; my dad taught me how to play this sport and ever since then I have been trying to beat him; so far, I have only been able to once.
Gardening
In my free time, I also like to do Gardening. I have quite a good-sized garden, and during COVID, I started planting a few plants and creating a vegetable garden. From then onwards, I continued gardening and expanded the range of plants I took care of, including bonsais, succulents, herbs, and jade. It has now become a very fond hobby of mine.
Rubiks cubing
A hobby I took up in Junior Kings (my primary school) was Rubik's cubing. I first taught myself how to solve the original 3x3x3 Rubik's cube, and then started learning more and more. Now, I can solve the 2x2x2, 3x3x3, 4x4x4, windmill, Pyraminx, megaminx, and probably the funniest, banana "cube". After I had learnt all of these Cubes I started trying to become faster and faster on the core cubes that I solve (2x2x2 and 3x3x3) and when I thought I was fast enough I became a world cubing association member and entered my first competition. click here to see my WCA profile.
Cooking
I love to cook and try to make a conscious effort to make my own meals, as well as helping my parents out in the kitchen. I like to play around with different ingredients and experiment with different flavours. I love spices and always try to incorporate them into my cooking. I have learnt most of the recipes I Know from my parents (who have also taught me most of my cooking skills).
DIY
I love DIY and making new projects and one of my favourites has been an insulated hut for my two pet tortoises (Harry and Sally). When we moved into our new home, we started to build an outdoor enclosure for our two tortoises, but because they were from a warmer climate, we needed a place where they could refuge from the cold weather of England. Therefore, I designed and made a wooden hut with cavity walls filled with insulation and a fully waterproof roof with space for a heating lamp inside.
Spray painting
Another hobby that I love to do is spray painting. I am quite new to it and have started by making planets and solar systems as I believe they are quite easy to do and teach you how to control where to paint I have been getting better and better and think that the paintings look quite good now.
Fishing
One thing that I love to do whenever we go to the beach is fishing, I love to fish and I find that catching and releasing fish is a thrill. It is a nice way to spend a day with the family even though sometimes it can be a bit boring. I also like to see the different types of fish that I can catch.
Photography
I also love photography, ever since my mother showed me my first working camera I started my hobby of photography. now I have my own Nikon camera and use it to take photos of wildlife. I love photography as it gives people ways to capture moments and remember them forever. On the left, you can see a photo I took with my camera.
Drumming and Guitar
2-3 years back I took up drumming and immediately loved it, I started with a drum teacher and now I just play on my own whenever I feel like it. A year later I also took up guitar and was starting to learn how to play an electric one before year 7. I love making up my own beats and have loads of fun whenever I decide to play.
Go-karting
One of my favourite hobbies is Go-karting. I love the way you are overwhelmed with thrill and adrenaline (so much so that your legs start shaking afterwards) and the feeling of being pressed back into your seat when cruising by at 30mph. I adore the feeling of drifting past a tight corner and feeling the side tires come up a little, the feeling of overtaking someone and most of all the rev of the petrol engine.
Lego
I love problem-solving and building so naturally I love Lego. I first got into Lego at the age of five-six starting with smaller sets and working my way up to creating my own. after I had started building my own sets I used Lego to design projects like my outdoor tortoise enclosure.
Virtual reality
I love to play in Vr as the quality of the headset makes you feel like you're in a different world altogether. You could be skiing down a mountain and then immediately switch to diving in the Mariana Trench. sky diving at 1,000 feet or climbing up a mountain. in Vr the possibilities are endless.
